A classical musician, Genet focuses her practice on family law matters, including dissolution, legal separation, allocation of parental responsibilities, and child support. As a licensed mediator, Genet received her B.A. from Yale University and then graduated from the University of Colorado Law School. In law school, she served as a student attorney in the Civil Practice Clinic and also as Associate Editor for the Journal on Telecommunications and High Technology Law. She also interned for Justice Allison Eid on the Colorado Supreme Court. As a past associate at a mid-sized Denver law firm, Genet represented clients in civil matters in state and federal court.
Professional Background
Dawn’s career in law began with her initial interest in law enforcement. After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, she then pursued her legal education at Hamline University School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor in 1999. Her early legal experience included serving as a Legislative Analyst helping draft criminal laws for the State of Maryland.
Dawn was first admitted to practice law in Maryland and dedicated a significant portion of her career to the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office as an Assistant State’s Attorney.In this role, she prosecuted contempt and violation of probation cases for failure to pay child support and conducted countless trials to establish paternity and to establish, modify, and enforce child support.
Dawn later transitioned into private practice, where she broadened her legal proficiency to include divorce, custody, domestic violence, and prenuptial agreements. She is now licensed in Colorado and brings her wealth of experience to serve clients at Johnson Law Group.
